To test ignitability of hearing protectors , according to BS EN 13819 clause 4.13 and BS EN 352.
Test apparatus includes a steel rod,a heat source and a thermocouple temperature measuring device.
A steel rod is heated to a known temperature and applied to the ear-muffs,this shall be (300 ± 3)mm long and 6 mm nominal diameter with end faces which are flat and perpendicular to its longitudinal axis.
Heat one end of the rod over a length of at least 50 mm to a temperauture of (650 ± 20) °C.
Position the rod vertically,check that its temperature 20mm from the heated end is (650 ± 20) °C and apply its heated end face against the surface of the ear-muffs with the force exerted by its own mass,for a period of (5,0 ± 0,5)s.
